Reaching out to survivors of the Shoah (Holocaust). Since it began
serving hot meals in 1997, Hazon Yeshaya Soup Kitchens has been
identifying and documenting survivors of the Shoah and now
maintains a registry of some 15,000 names from more than a dozen
countries. Among this group, 1,600 survivors already receive hot
daily meals from Hazon Yeshaya through Project Reach Out.
Additionally, Hazon Yeshaya distributes staple food packages and hot
meals to some 5,000 individuals who are registered with us.
In order to be included in this database, individuals must
provide documentation indicating they lived in Europe during World
War II. In order to be eligible for food assistance from Hazon
Yeshaya, they must also demonstrate a financial need by providing
documentation from the Ministry of Welfare and other information
about their personal economic situation.
It is painful to witness the continuing tragedy in the lives of
those who have already suffered so much, the aging generation of
those who went through the Shoah and who are now living out the
twilight years of their lives in poverty and hunger.
Hazon Yeshaya seeks to provide relief for all those who continue
to suffer from the pain and indignity of hunger. With the continuing
generous help from Hazon Yeshaya supporters, we can expand this
program to eventually reach each and every Shoah survivor who
comes to us for help.
